For Thought : 123108

A few quotes from Oswald Chambers that I read this morning. You can view the complete writing online by clicking here.

"Our present enjoyment of God's grace is apt to be checked by the memory of yesterday's sins and blunders. But God is the God of our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them in order to turn the past into a ministry of spiritual culture for the future. God reminds us of the past lest we get into a shallow security in the present."

"God's hand reaches back to the past and makes a clearing-house for conscience."

"As we go forth into the coming year, let it not be in the haste of impetuous, unremembering delight, nor with the flight of thoughtlessness but with the patient power of knowing that the God is Israel will go before us. Our yesterdays present irreparable things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ."

These thoughts pretty much sum up what I had posted about on my blog yesterday. I had shared my past with my readers, wanting them to know where I came from in my past so that they would know why I have the burden to pray for them today. My past is not pretty, but God has turned it around for His Good, allowing me to use it to help others. And I am so grateful for it and the lessons learned through trials and pain.
And my past does sleep on the bosom of Christ. Thank you so much for posting this today. I continue to pray for you and Nicol.
and Angie and Todd. My heart hurts still for your losses. Have a blessed New Years.

Thanks you for today's post...The last paragraph spoke volumes to my spirit..Last night I was talking to the trinity about my oldest daughter(she's nine)and asking forgiveness for past opportunities with her...I look back on things(ways)I could have handled differently(with more grace and compassion)and hope God will cover her and me...He will...Thank you

Thank you for sharing - I actually read this this morning too - but a good evening reminder. Another favorite that has spoken to me is July 28th.

Love and prayers to your family
