April 16, 2003

You probably didn't know this about Nicol and I...

Late in the afternoon on April 16, 2003, we got in the car and drove to the county clerk's office in Williamson County (TN), applied for a marriage license, asked for a recommendation for a justice of the peace (and got one, Ms. Mary Mills, a retired school principal), drove to her home in Franklin, and exchanged our vows.

Yep, we eloped!

Tomorrow we will celebrate our 6th anniversary... so hard to believe. I definitely married above myself and I often tell people that as talented as Nicol is vocally, she is a far better wife and mother. We have certainly been through a lot together in these six years and we have faced things neither one of us ever thought possible. I'm so glad she's my wife. She's given me an amazing daughter, a precious (and terribly missed) son, and the wonderful anticipation of yet another child. What gifts. She takes me as I am, all the quirks and flaws, and she loves me anyway. She has shown strength and faith that amaze me in the wake of losing our son. She is intelligent and gifted and she's one of the most humble and compassionate people I've ever known. She's a pretty amazing woman.

Solomon said it well... He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

Happy anniversary Scoob... I love ya... thanks for everything you've brought into my life... you are a gift!

This is a beautiful post. I'm closing in on my 5th anniversary, and feel the same way - I married above myself. I thank God every day for my husband, and love to see others with the same love for their spouse. I have a feeling Nicol is lucky, too.

Happy Anniversary to you and Nicol! I admire the way you proclaim your love and admiration for your darling wife.

My husband and I eloped as well because he was leaving for Iraq in two weeks. We've been married for 4 years and I love him more each day. Even though we had a big wedding when he got back it was not nearly as special as the day we were dressed in jeans, exchanging our vows.

Consider yourself blessed to have Mrs. Mills to bless you and Nicol in marriage. She was my school principal and teacher growing up in Franklin. What an amazing woman she was. A pioneer when women like her were not put in positions of authority. Congratulations on your anniversary!

How beautiful...What a sweet beginning. As you say...I married above myself. I don't deserve the loving and kind man the Lord gave to me. I can only hope that with God's GRACE I could earn such a glowing review from my good husband.

Dear Greg and Nicol..... I wanted to wish you both a happy anniversary. This day is special for me also because it was my parents anniversary too. Today would have been their 33rd anniversary. Even though my dad is gone...I still call my mom on this day and wish her happy anniversary because I know my dad would want me to do that for her. Again hope you two have a happy day. Congratulations. Sincerely, Liz Trubee

A belated love and prayers to both of you and to Summer as she shared this day with you.
The whirlwind 6 weeks you had after you met at a special Moody event and then God giving both of you the go-ahead to marry is a fantastic memoir in itself.
Love you bunches.

Happy Anniversary!! Speaking of your wonderful, talented wife...I have been so touched by her music, both with Selah and her independent works. Her voice is amazing, and her passion for the Lord really comes through in her music. Many of the songs that she sings, namely Part the Waters/I Need Thee, Wonderful Merciful Savior, and Resurection have been huge sources of strength for me, when I went through a very tough time in my life. Anyway, would you please thank her, on my behalf, for sharing her gift. I was also wondering, if you knew of a way that I could get my hands on a copy of the sheet music for "Resurection". I have looked online and through the Christian book store, and haven't been able to find it. Any info. that you may have would be greatly apreciated.

Happy Anniversary! I think that your wife is pretty amazing too. She has such a beautiful voice, and her love for the Lord really comes through in her singing. Over the years, many of her songs, namely "Part the Waters/I Need Thee", Resurection, and Wonderful Merciful Savior, have been a source of encouragement for me during a very difficult time in my life. Would you please thank her, on my behalf, for sharing her gift and allowing God to use her to touch/reach others? Greg, thank you for supporting her in those endeavors. As a pastor's child, I know that a supportive spouse makes a huge difference in a ministry. Thank you!!!
Do you know how I could get my hands on sheet music for Resurection? I have looked everywhere for it, and have been unsuccessful. Any info. on how I could get a copy, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi my name is Melissa Child, and I was just told of your blog from a friend. It breaks my heart to see the loss of your beautiful little boy Luke. I also have a son named Luke Matthew Child that passed away from SIDS June 8th 2006. He was 10 weeks old too. Born on March 27th. I wish I could post a picture on here for you. If you would ever feel like talking you can email me at melissaannchild@yahoo.com. I have two daughters, and then we had Luke. Shortly after that we had another daughter, and thought we would try one more time, and were blessed with twin boys! They are now 3 months old. God speed to you and your adorable family
